University Alliance: Enterprise Stars

University Alliance is searching for the Enterprise Stars of tomorrow.

We are holding a celebration of the emerging business talent among our students at the University of Salford at its MediaCityUK campus.

Enterprise Stars will culminate in the opportunity to win investment from a panel of investors. The festival also includes opportunities for networking, mentoring, showcasing ideas and advice and support on how to convert a great business idea into reality.

How to Enter?

Please produce:

  • A two minute video outlining your business idea and its purpose. (50%)
  • A simplified Business Model Canvas (50%) 

Then send to the Enterprise department by Wednesday 11 April

All entries will then be assessed a winner to represent Kingston University in the final will be chosen.

What are the key deadlines and dates?

  • Wednesday 11 April – Deadline for students application to the Kingston Enterprise Department 
  • Monday 16 April – Deadline for Universities to send entrant to University Alliance
  • Thursday 14 June – Enterprise Stars Final at the University of Salford, MediaCityUK

What happens in the final?

A one-day enterprise festival will be hosted by Salford University at MediaCityUK on Thursday 14 June 2018, culminating in the opportunity for students to win investment and business advice from a panel of investors.

The day will consist of:

  • Morning networking and learning
  • A chance to prep and fine-tune pitches
  • Afternoon pitching session
  • Feedback and celebration

2018 Santander Universities Entrepreneurship Awards

The Santander Universities Entrepreneurship Awards 2018 is one of the UK’s largest student and graduate business pitching competitions. Students can win £25,000 funding to kick start their business!

Why should you enter?

Of course the money is a great incentive, but the prize offers much more than that including invaluable mentoring from business experts, interns and an accelerator week!

Who should enter?

If you have a business, or are in the development stages of a business, and are a current student or recent graduate, you are probably eligible to enter this competition.  Full terms of eligibility are provided in the information pack, downloadable here.

What are the competition categories?

  • Technology business – defined as a business or idea with hardware and/or software central to the business value proposition.
  • Non-technology business – defined as a business or idea that has a value proposition that is not primarily based around hardware and/or software.

Kingston University will select one entry per category to represent them. 

What could you win?

There is a grand prize of £25,000 equity-free seed funding and a runner’s up prize of £15,000 for each of the categories.

All four winners will also receive:

  • Mentoring from business experts
  • Access to the Accelerator Week
  • A fully funded intern
  • £500 digital growth voucher from Talent Cupboard

Additionally the Santander judges will be looking out for the entry with the most positive social, community or environmental impact throughout the competition.  The successful entry will receive £7,500 of equity-free seed funding, access to the accelerator week and a fully funded intern.

How does the competition work?

Students will need to send their entries to the Kingston University Enterprise department and Kingston University will decide on two winners to fit the categories mentioned above.  The two winners of this stage will be put forward into a Regional Heat, and if you are successful at that stage, you’ll have the opportunity to participate in an Accelerator Week which will prepare you for the Nation Finals.

Can I enter the competition directly?

No.  Entries must be submitted to Santander Universities via the Enterprise Team.

What’s the deadline?

Students will need to submit their applications by Monday 16 April midday to be considered to represent Kingston University.

Please note the information pack gives a different deadline for universities to submit their finalists as 24-27 April – This is the universities deadline NOT your deadline.

Join our focus group

Can you help us shape the future Enterprise support offer at Kingston University?

The Enterprise Team at Kingston University is looking for current Kingston students like yourself to join an interactive group discussion to get your feedback on the activities and support they offer. In order to take part no previous Enterprise/Business experience is required, everyone is welcome!

 

The discussion will take place on Tuesday 24th October from 3.00-4.30pm at Kingston Hill Campus and sandwiches and light refreshments will be available. As a thank you for taking part you will receive a £10 Amazon voucher, which will be e-mailed to you after the group.

Social Storm returns 17-18 November tackling global problems through collaborative innovation

Social Storm is back again on 17-18 November! Our 24-hour social innovation hackathon, will bring together 200 students, from over 15 universities, spanning 5 countries, to collaborate to find innovative solutions to global problems.

We’re looking for people who believe they can make a difference to society, from any background or degree discipline. You will be challenged to work in multinational and multi-location teams, overcoming cultural and language barriers to build an effective team; to create, validate, and pitch a solution.

Social Storm 2017 will be tackling two UN Sustainable Development Goals; Goal 11. Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable & Goal 13. Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts.

Join an International Hackathon – 24th – 26th November

How would you like to extend your network, respond to a global challenge working internationally with people you’ve never met before and submit a pitch for an innovative idea?  Here’s your chance with IN2IT.

This November you can join an international, online Hackathon bringing together students from Israel, France, Poland and the UK, co-funded by the European Union’s Erasmus+ programme. I2IT will give you the opportunity to join a virtual, international team, and work together to develop an idea for a product or service. The challenge will focus on a topic of global interest: Cities of the Future.

The top performers from KU will travel to a conference in Milan, Italy next spring in order to share their experiences.

As a participant you’ll receive an online pack to review two weeks prior to the 36hour hackathon taking place on the 24th-26th November.

Students from all disciplines, of all ages and all backgrounds are welcome!
